Associate Professor Dr Aznan Hasan

Chairman of the Shariah Committee, Maybank

He was appointed as the Chairman of the Shariah Committee on 1 May 2014 and a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director on 25 April 2019 at Maybank Islamic. 

Dr Aznan received his first degree in Shariah from the University of al-Azhar and a Master’s degree in Shariah from Cairo University with distinction (Mumtaz). He then obtained his PhD from the University of Wales, Lampeter, United Kingdom.

Currently, he is the President of the Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASAS), the Deputy Chairman of the Shariah Advisory Council of Securities Commission, a Board member of Higher Shari’ah Authority of UAE Central Bank, and a committee member of Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI). He had served as member of the Shariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia (2006-2008 and 2010-2013).

He serves as a member of the Shariah Advisory Board/Shariah Committee for Amanahraya Berhad, Employee Provident Fund, and Sedania As-Salam Capital Sdn Bhd. He also serves as a Shariah consultant/adviser to Maybank Investment Bank, Hong Leong Islamic Bhd, Public Investment Bank Bhd, Malacca Securities Bhd, Jupiter Securities Bhd, Inter-Pacific Bhd and Amanah Hartanah Bumiputra. He is a registered Shariah Advisor for the Islamic Unit Trust Schemes and Islamic securities (Sukuk), Securities Commission of Malaysia. Additionally, Dr Aznan serves as the Chairman of the Shariah Committee at Etiqa Takaful Berhad, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad.

Dr Aznan also serves as a member of the Shariah Advisory Boards of ABSA Islamic Bank (South Africa), FNB Bank (South Africa), Yasaar Limited (London), HSBC Amanah (Dubai), and Standard Chartered (Global).

Joel Kwong

Ravi is a Technical Director at the IFRS Foundation. He was involved in the development of the inaugural [draft] ISSB Standards: General Requirements and Climate Standard. Niloy Banerjee

UNDP Resident Representative for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam

Niloy is a development economist with specialization in effective institutions and capacity development. He previously led the UN Systems Affairs Group in UNDP, based in New York. In this position he led UNDP’s interface with UN agencies, funds and programmes, and with Member States in the arena of intergovernmental affairs. He has also led UNDP’s engagement in the round of UN reforms.

In previous assignments, he has been the Director of Knowledge, Innovation and Capacity Development Group; and Team Leader and Policy Advisor of Asia-Pacific – all for the Bureau for Development Policy in UNDP. He is highly familiar with the region, having been a regional policy advisor who supported countries in Asia-Pacific, and set up of the Singapore Policy Center for UNDP.

Niloy was appointed as the Resident Representative for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam on March 7, 2019.

Niloy has a master’s in economics from New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University and is a Fellow of the City University of New York.

Dato' Mah Weng Kwai

Dato’ Mah Weng Kwai was appointed as a Judicial Commissioner of the High Court of Malaya and then a Judge of the High Court of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur. He was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 2012 and retired from the judiciary in 2015. Dato’ Mah was appointed a Commissioner of the Malaysian​ Aviation Commission in 2016. Presently, he is a Legal Consultant with​ M/s MahWengKwai & Associates and also presides as an Arbitrator and Mediator. Dato’ Mah was called to the English Bar as a Barrister-at-Law 1971 and to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1972. From 1973 to 1985. Dato’ Mah served in the judicial and Legal Services of Malaysia and held, inter alia, the posts of Magistrate, President of the Sessions Court and Senior Assistant Registrar of the High Court. He also served as a Deputy Public Prosecutor and Senior Federal Counsel in the Attorney General’s Chambers in 1978 and 1981, respectively. From 1985 to 2009, Dato’ Mah left the Judicial and Legal Services and resumed practice as an Advocate and Solicitor in M/s MahWengKwai & Associates and had acted as Counsel in numerous arbitration hearings. Dato’ Mah holds a Master of Law (Hons) from the University of Sydney in Australia. Throughout his career, he held a variety of key positions and membership in various professional organizations. including as the President of the Malaysia Bar and LAWASIA (The Law Association for Asia and the Pacific); Member of Malaysian Law Reform Committee under the Prime Minister’s Department; and Member of the Organizing Committee of the International Association of Refugee Law Judges (IAELJ) Regional Conference on the Role of the Judiciary in Protecting Refugees. Dato’ Mah Weng Kwai was appointed as a Commissioner of SUHAKAM in June 2016 for the term 2016-2019 and the term has been extended until 2022.

Dr Kishore Ravuri

Shahril Azuar Jimin was appointed as Maybank’s first Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) on 1 March 2021.

He leads Maybank Group’s effort on Sustainability which focuses on environmental, social and governance (ESG). As the CSO, Shahril provides leadership to design, align and integrate our Sustainability initiatives, policies and goals to help drive the Sustainability agenda for the Maybank Group. 

Prior to his appointment as CSO, Shahril has held various leadership positions across Maybank Group including being the first CEO of Maybank Foundation from 2014 to 2021.  From 2012 – 2014 Shahril was the Chief Commercial Officer of Maybank Ageas Holdings Berhad which represents the insurance business of Maybank. Before that he was the Chief Sales Officer of Etiqa Insurance & Takaful from 2008 until 2012. Concurrently from 2010-2012, Shahril held the post of Chief Executive Officer of Etiqa Takaful Berhad,and was Chairman of the Global Takaful Group from 2012 – 2014.

Wan Suhaimie Wan Mohd Saidie

Wan Suhaimie has more than 30 years of working experience 26 of which as an economist covering the financial markets. After receiving a degree in economics at the International Islamic University Malaysia in 1991, he joined The Star daily newspaper as a reporter and later as a financial correspondent for AFX Asia (A joint venture between Agence France Presse and Financial Times). He began his investment research career with PB Worldsec Securities (A Hong Kong-based brokerage, then a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Tokyo Bank) in 1996 as an equity analyst but shortly switched to macroeconomic research. Following the Asian financial crisis of 1999 he briefly returned to financial journalism and later joined AmInvestment Bank as an economist before joining Kenanga Investment Bank in 2006 as head of economic research. He currently sits on the board of trustees of the Malaysian Tax Research Foundation. He was also trained as a photojournalist at Brandenburg Berlin School of Journalism in Germany. His other main area of interest includes behavioral science, multi asset investment, risk management, blockhain digital asset technology, and history.

Chai Ping joined Experian as the Human Resources Director in their Global Development Centre in Kuala Lumpur in June 2017.   In November the same year, she was asked to assume the role of Country Site Leader (GM Designate)  in Experian, providing overall leadership for the centre locally.  Over a career that spans more than 20 years, she joined the “Big 4” fraternity in Consulting before her foray into HR, providing strategic direction and driving the people agenda with the business.  During her tenure in Accenture, she was the Country HR Lead of Malaysia & Vietnam and subsequently became the Asia Pacific HR Lead for Accenture Strategy, rolling out the Accenture Growth Model where Accenture reorganised its global operating structures.  She also played a key role in leading and managing Accenture’s International Women’s Day and was awarded Champion of the Accenture Global Inclusion & Diversity Excellence Award in 2013.

Dr. Hezri Adnan

Executive Director, Malaysian Institute of Economic Research

Dr Hezri Adnan is the Executive Director of the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER). With a PhD in Public Policy from the Australian National University, he specialises in sustainable development solutions with work spanning areas such green economy and natural resources governance. From 2015 to 2018, Hezri served as a Member of the United Nations’ International Resource Panel (IRP), a UN Environment Programme expert body that focuses on strategic issues of resource scarcity and efficiency. 

He has consulted for international organizations such as UNDP, UNESCAP, UNICEF, UNRISD and the World Bank, on many issues related to development and environmental challenges in the developing world. His past and current advisory roles include Cleared Advisor for the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industries and a Member of the Advisory Council for WWF Malaysia. He is an elected Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) under the Science & Technology Development and Industry discipline. 

Dr Hezri has held visiting status as a Distinguished Fellow at the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia, Adjunct Professor at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Adjunct Professor at Universiti Malaya (UM), Honorary Associate Professor at the Fenner School of Environment and Society, Australian National University (ANU) and Visiting Scholar at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) at Kyoto University, Japan. Abdul Hakim Amir Zainol

Rashyid Redza Anwarudin

Rashyid, 44, a Malaysian, was appointed Chief Sustainability Officer on 1 April 2022. He was previously the Head, Group Sustainability since 2020. In this role, he focuses on efforts in implementing on-the-ground programs to promote responsible and ethical production throughout SDPB’s operations and global supply chain. He also engages with a wide range of stakeholders within the sustainable palm oil sphere.

He has 21 years’ experience in corporate and advisory role around sustainability, corporate responsibility, corporate strategy, programme management and change management across the plantation, forestry, property, telecommunications, automotive, oil & gas and public sectors.

He was previously part of the regional leadership team for the Sustainability and Climate Change advisory team of the PwC Southeast Asia Consulting practice. He advised multiple clients regionally around issues such as implementing sustainable supply chains, development of corporate sustainability strategies, quantification of responsible practices for corporate valuation, government frameworks and policies, and corporate reporting and assurance around sustainability.

He joined the Sime Darby Group after 15 years of corporate advisory experience as Vice President, Group Sustainability and Quality Management at the head office of Sime Darby Berhad in 2014 and moved to Sime Darby Plantation Berhad as a Principal Sustainability Officer as part of the de-merger exercise in 2017.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Imperial College London, United Kingdom.

Nor Yati Ahmad

He has 18 years of experience in providing professional services, and his expertise includes sustainability strategy, sustainable finance, ESG disclosure and internal control across sectors that include real estate, infrastructure, banking, telecommunication and internet. 

Before joining Deloitte, Brian spent 8 years as a partner in an international professional firm, and 10 years as the Director of a regional sustainability consulting firm focusing on the Asia Pacific region.

Brian holds a number of positions in the sustainability sector and is proactively promoting the development of climate and sustainability in the region.​ He was also a part-time lecturer on sustainability at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a guest researcher on corporate social responsibility at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business and Sun Yat-sen University in China.

Alan Johnson

Alan Johnson was elected IFAC President in November 2020, having previously served as Deputy President from 2018-2020 and as a board member since November 2015. He was nominated by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Mr. Johnson is a former non-executive director of Jerónimo Martins SGPS, S.A., a food retailer with operations in Portugal, Poland and Colombia, having completed his board mandate in 2016. Between 2005 and 2011 he served as Chief Audit Executive for the Unilever Group. Mr. Johnson also served as Chief Financial Officer of Unilever’s Global Foods businesses and worked for Unilever for 35 years in various finance positions in Africa, Europe and Latin America.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the IFAC Professional Accountants in Business Committee between 2011 and 2015, chaired ACCA’s Market Oversight Committee between 2006 and 2012, and was a member of the board of Gildat Strauss Israel between 2003 and 2004. Between 2018 and 2020 he was a non-executive director of the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and chaired its Audit & Risk Assurance Committee.

Mr. Johnson is chair of the board of governors of St. Julian’s School in Portugal and chairs its Finance Committee, and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC) and chairs its Audit Committee. Ian Carruthers

Chair of International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board

Ian Carruthers became Chair of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB) in 2016, having been a Board Member since 2010. As a Board Member he led IPSASB’s work on Long Term Financial Sustainability and alignment between IPSASs and Government Finance Statistics. IPSAS issued during Ian’s chairmanship so far include those on Social Benefits and Financial Instruments. Having completed his second term (2019 – 2021), Ian has now been reappointed as IPSASB Chair for a third term through to the end of 2024.

After joining HM Treasury from PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1999, Ian played a key role in the UK Government’s transition from cash to accrual budgeting and reporting, in particular leading its Whole of Government Accounts program. He joined CIPFA in 2006. As part-time Chair, CIPFA Standards, Ian has been involved in all aspects of the Institute’s guidance development activities, including leading its work on the Role of the Public Services CFO, and the development of the International Framework for Good Governance in the Public Sector in partnership with IFAC.

Ms. Sirois is a Senior Governance Specialist in the World Bank’s Governance Practice, currently supporting the World Bank’s engagement in the Pacific region. Since joining the World Bank in 2013, she has supported financial reporting and public financial management reforms in the regions of Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europe, as well as global reforms through the Bank’s Centre for Financial Reporting Reform. 

Ms. Sirois joined the World Bank from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, where she held the position of Deputy Chief Accountant, overseeing the agency’s IPSAS reforms and execution of the annual budget in the delivery of services to Palestinian refugee populations located throughout the Middle East. Barry C. Melancon is the CEO of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, the most influential body of professional accountants in the world with 650,000 members and students. Formed in 2017, it combines the strengths of The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), which Melancon also leads as President & CEO.

Melancon joined the AICPA in 1995 when he was 37 years old, and is now the longest serving CEO in the organization’s 129 year history. Under his tenure, the AICPA has grown to become the largest membership body of CPAs in the world and has spearheaded a number of initiatives to benefit not only the profession, but also investors, business owners, lenders and the general public. These include audit quality centers; private company reporting standards; eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL); the computerized CPA exam; and two consumer financial literacy education programs.

Under Melancon’s leadership in 2011, the AICPA formed a joint venture with CIMA to elevate management accounting globally. In 1984, he was elected a firm partner. Melancon graduated in 1978 from Nicholls State University in Louisiana, majoring in accounting with a minor in government. He also earned an MBA in 1983 from Nicholls State University and subsequently served as an adjunct professor of accounting at his alma mater for four years. He was also awarded his alma mater’s first and only Honorary Doctorate of Commerce in 2008.

Datuk Bazlan Osman was elected by the council as the Vice President on 30 July 2021. Previously he was appointed as MIA Council member on 1 December 2019.

He sits on the board of five public listed companies, namely as an Independent Non Executive Chairman of Fima Corporation Berhad, and as Independent Non Executive Director of Bursa Malaysia Berhad, Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Keluarga Berhad, Glomac Berhad and Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad. He is also a director of Malaysia Professional Accountancy Centre (MyPAC).

He was formerly an Executive Director of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM). His last position in TM was Acting Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) and was also the Deputy GCEO. Prior to that he was the Group Chief Financial Officer of TM.

Datuk Bazlan holds a Diploma in Accounting from Polytechnic of North London and had attended senior leadership management programs at the University of Oxford’s SAID Business School, and IMD.Datuk Bazlan is a Chartered Accountant, a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). He is also the Chair of the ACCA Malaysia Advisory Committee.

Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, 58, is currently the Chairman of Bursa Malaysia Berhad. He is regarded as one of the most versatile corporate leaders in Malaysia having successfully led four major organisations in infrastructure development, telecommunications, financial services and investment management. He served as Group Chairman of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Malaysia’s largest fund management company, from August 2016 to June 2018 following completion of his term as a Senator and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Economic Planning from June 2013 to June 2016.

Prior to his cabinet appointment, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid was formerly the President and CEO of Maybank, Malaysia’s largest public listed company and one of the leading banking groups in Southeast Asia, from May 2008. He was credited with transforming Maybank into a regional banking group and a global leader in Islamic finance. Prior to joining Maybank, he was the Group CEO of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) from July 2004 until its demerger with Axiata Group Berhad in April 2008. He was also formerly the MD/CEO of UEM Group Berhad, his first role as CEO at the age of 37. He successfully led the turnaround of UEM Group, Malaysia’s largest infrastructure development conglomerate (which owned PLUS Expressways), following its takeover by sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional in 2001.

Tan Sri Abdul Wahid is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). He has received numerous awards throughout his career. Dr. Sarah Azlina Che Rohim

Dr Sarah Azlina Che Rohim is currently the Deputy Director of Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions (DNFBP) Division, Financial Intelligence and Enforcement Department of Bank Negara Malaysia. The Division regulates and supervises the implementation/compliance with anti-money laundering and counter financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) requirements. She has been with Bank Negara Malaysia for 20 years and had served in various capacities in relation to policy formulation, strategic development, risk assessment and international relations. Among others, she was responsible for the formulation of Bank Negara Malaysia’s AML/CFT Policy Documents (and recently for DNFBP) and the National AML/CFT Strategic Plan 2015-2020 under the National Coordination Committee to Counter Money Laundering. She was the national coordinator who was instrumental for the Malaysia’s Mutual Evaluation by Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and Asia/Pacific Group on Money Laundering in 2014/2015 and a part of the team in securing Malaysia’s membership to the FATF. She is also a FATF-trained mutual evaluation assessor and was a part of an assessment team of a mutual evaluation. She has also led various national risk assessment teams including the SRA (DNFBP), NPO and legal arrangements.

She holds LL.B from the University of Lancaster, LL.M (International Financial Laws) and PhD in Law from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom.

He is also a visiting professor at the Asia School of Business. He specializes in Islamic jurisprudence, Social and Sustainable Finance and Fintech. He serves as advisor/consultant on fintech, and social and sustainable finance to government organisations in the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, the Philippines and Nigeria amongst others. He is also a consultant to the World Bank on Islamic finance in developing countries.

Kasia Klaczynska Lewis

Terence Ho is Associate Professor in Practice at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.

Lim Fen Nee

Lim Fen Nee is the Chair of MIA Malaysian Digital Technology Implementation Committee. Fen Nee currently serves on various boards as Independent Non-Executive Director. Fen Nee was a former regional partner with Deloitte Southeast Asia. Prior to this, she was the Head of Audit Oversight Board (AOB), Securities Commission Malaysia and also served as a Project Advisor to the Securities Commission covering various capital market initiatives. Dr. Alifah Aida Lope Abdul Rahman

Dr. Alifah Aida Lope Abdul Rahman is an external auditor at the National Audit Department of Malaysia. She holds Bsc (Accounting) from the Mara Institute of Technology, Malaysia (1996) and MSc in Computer Systems Auditing (United Kingdom, 2006) and PhD in Information Systems Auditing (United Kingdom, 2016).

She has been serving for the Department for almost 27 years. For the first six years, she was an auditor cum trainer and had trained audit staff in accounting, auditing, ICT and management. Her vast experience in training has allowed her to be appointed as a training specialist for The Asian Organizations for Audit Supreme Institutions (ASOSAI) in 2002. As a training specialist, she was responsible to design and develop course materials before delivering and had delivered courses in Asia region such as Japan, Cambodia, Pakistan and Thailand. With all her experience, she has been seconded to the State Audit Institution (SAI) of the United Arab Emirates to share her knowledge and expertise for the SAI capacity building.

CA. (Dr.) Debashis Mitra

(Dr.) Debashis Mitra, was elected as the President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the year 2022-23. Serving his third term in the Council of ICAI, he has been serving the accounting profession for more than thirty-four years. Dr. Keith Kendall

PROGRAMME FEE

  • Fee is payable to MALAYSIAN INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTANTS
    • Individual Registration: Full payment shall be made at the point of online registration.
    • Corporate Registration: Full payment shall be made within thirty (30) days from the date of the Invoice, or before the end of the promotional period (if applicable), or twenty-one (21) days before the Conference, whichever earlier. Failure to do so will result in the issuance of a revised Invoice that shall supersede the earlier Invoice issued.
  • Admittance to the Conference Venue (physical delegates) / Access to Virtual Conference (virtual delegates) shall be granted only upon full payment as per the above requirement OR confirmation of registration.


PAYMENT MODE

  • Payment should be made through electronic payment channels such as online payment via the MIA member website and electronic fund transfer (EFT) method.
  • Payment by cash and cheque is NOT ACCEPTABLE from 1st January 2022.


HRD CORP (FOR CLAIMABLE EVENTS ONLY)

  • MIA is an approved Training Provider registered under ‘Institut Akauntan Malaysia’ (MyCoID: 631967).
  • Employer’s Obligations:
    • To ensure grant approval is obtained prior to event registration and to provide the Grant ID notification upon event registration.
    • To make full payment to MIA as per the issued Invoice within 14 working days upon receipt of MIA’s notification in the event the approved training fee is cancelled by HRDC due to non-compliance on the part of the participant or his/her employer or any valid reasons stipulated by HRDC.
    • To settle the balance payment to MIA within 14 working days upon receipt of MIA’s notification in the event only partial claim is approved by HRDC. MIA will provide copy of the original invoice and will not issue a new invoice for the balance amount.
    • If employer has made payment prior to grant approval, a refund will be made to employer subject to reimbursement received from HRDC. Refund will be made upon receipt of duly completed employer’s EFT Form.
    • To provide required information and/or documents after completion of event for the purpose of HRDC Claim within 7 working days upon receipt of MIA’s notification.


CANCELLATION

Should the delegate(s) decide to cancel their enrolment, a cancellation policy shall be applied as follows:

  • For written cancellations received on or before 11 May 2024, no penalties will be imposed, and a full refund will be made to delegates who have paid.
  • For written cancellations received after 11 May 2024:
    • A refund (after a 20% deduction for administrative charges) will be given
    • Unpaid registrations will also be liable for 20% administrative charge
  • For written cancellations/no-show/no login on the day of the Conference:
    • No refund will be entertained
    • Unpaid registrations will also be liable for full payment of the registration fee
    • Partial cancellation is not allowed.
  • Replacing registered delegates is not allowed.
  • Cancelled paid registrations can be transferred to future event(s) after the applicable administrative charges have been deducted.
  • • The transfer request to future event(s) should be confirmed by the Corporate/Individual within three (3) days after cancellation, otherwise the cancellation will be confirmed with refund action. Transfer request will not be entertained after the refund request.
  • Corporate & Individual to top-up the balance amount if the amount to be transferred to the future event is insufficient.
  • Excess amount after transfer will be refunded to the Corporate/Individual’s bank account as per provided in the EFT form by the Corporate/Individual.
  • Corporate/Individual to provide the EFT form each time a refund is requested.

CONFERENCE ACCESS PASS
  • Delegates will be given the conference tag during registration.
  • Delegates are required to wear the conference tag at all times during the 2-days conference. Only delegates with conference tag will be allowed into the conference halls, exhibition show and lunch hall.
  • In the event conference tag is missing, a replacement tag can be issued subject to a penalty fee of RM200.
  • The Access Link will be emailed at least 2-days before the Conference.
  • The Access Link will be issued to delegates with Full Payment OR confirmed registration.
  • The Access Link is unique and shall not be forwarded/shared with others.
VERIFICATION OF ATTENDANCE
  • All delegates are required to present a photo identification (NRIC, driving license or company’s ID card) at the registration counter prior to the issuance of the conference tag.
  • Admittance may be denied upon failure to present photo identification.
  • Attendance will be recorded based on delegates online duration in the platform from 9:00am – 6:00pm on both Conference days.
  • Delegates are advisable to turn off Virtual Private Network (VPN) when login into virtual platform to ensure your login activity/ attendance can be track accurately.
ATTENDANCE
  • Physical conference delegates must be present physically at the conference venue i.e Kuala Lumpur Convention Center
  • Access to the Virtual Platform WILL NOT be given to physical conference delegates under any circumstances
  • Virtual delegates must attend the conference session virtually via MIA Conference Virtual Platforms.
  • Virtual delegates are PROHIBITED from attending the Physical Conference at any point of time.
  • At any circumstances virtual delegates are found to be presented physically at the conference venue, the Organiser is obliged to charge and demand the physical conference fees from the said delegates
CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE AND CPE CREDIT HOURS Physical delegates of MIAC 2023 will be entitled to 18 CPE Credit hours. The e-certificate and CPE credit hours will be credited into the MIA Member Services Portal within 14 days after the Conference to those delegates who have complied with the following Terms & Conditions:
  • Upon full attendance of the Conference.
  • Partial attendance does not qualify for partial CPE hours.
  • Listening to pre-recorded webinar and/or reading from past webinar e-material shall not qualify as structured CPE credit hours.
Virtual delegates of MIAC 2023 will be entitled to 14 CPE Credit hours. The e-certificate and CPE credit hours will be credited into the MIA Member Services Portal within 14 days after the Conference to those delegates who have complied with the following Terms & Conditions:
  • Remain logged in at least 80% of the time allocated for the conference,
  • Submit the post-course evaluation on learning outcome within 3 days after the completion of the Conference (late submission of the post-course evaluation will not be entertained).
  • Listening to pre-recorded webinar and/or reading from past webinar e-material shall not qualify as structured CPE credit hours.

Group Chief Financial Controller, Maybank

Malique has an international finance career spanning over 20 years. He started his career in the United Kingdom at Flemmings Chartered Accountants, subsequently joining Credit Suisse and Royal Bank of Scotland. Upon returning to Malaysia, he joined CIMB as Senior Manager for Financial Planning & Forecasting.

He joined Maybank Group in 2012 in the Group’s investment banking business. His most recent role is as Chief Financial Officer of Maybank Investment Banking Group (Maybank IBG), spanning across the 10 countries that form Maybank IBG’s international operating platform. In addition, he supervises the finance & operations functions of Maybank Asset Management Group and Securities Solutions (SS).

Malique has played a key role in the transformation of Maybank IBG, spearheading a strategic cost optimisation programme and a full-scale transformation of SS in its integration with the Investment Management platform. He was also instrumental in supporting the transformation projects for key Maybank IBG markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, UK, USA and the Philippines, helping to deliver a more sustainable business model.

Malique holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). He attended the Columbia Business School Chief Financial Officer Programme where he was awarded a Certificate in Business Excellence.

Deborah Henry

Founder, Fugeelah & Fugee School

Deborah Henry, rose to fame when she was crowned Miss Malaysia World in 2007 and again, Miss Malaysia Universe in 2011.

 

Aptly dubbed “Beauty with a Golden Heart”, she’s a children’s rights advocate for World Vision and refugee rights advocate for UNHCR. In these roles, she has represented Malaysia on mission trips to Brazil, Myanmar, India and Lebanon.

 

In 2009, responding the plight of the refugees and their rights to fair and equal opportunities to education, Deborah co-founded Fugee School. Fugee School is a non-profit education hub for hundreds of refugee children in Malaysia. It was her dream to make the school self-sustaining, and in 2017 Deborah founded Fugeelah, a social enterprise that works with refugees and marginalized Malaysian communities. Fugeelah’s goal is to provide skills training, and employment opportunities for refugee youth, as well as to create a sustainable revenue stream to fund Fugee School Operations.

 

In 2013, Deborah was listed in Forbes list of Asian Philanthropists. She was recognized for her active participation in championing social caused after receiving the Golden Heart Award: Tribute to Women in Malaysia 2016 where it was presented by Her Majesty the Queen of Malaysia.

 

In 2018, Deborah was nominated by the U.S. Embassy in Malaysia to represent the country in the prestigious International Visitor Leadership programme (IVLP) organized by the US State Department – ‘Global and Regional Responses to Refugee and Migration Issues’, in the U.S.

He is an Information System Auditor (ISA) and Certified Forensic Auditor, having completed Diploma & Certification Course conducted by ICAI, respectively.

He has vast experience in the fields of auditing, accounting, corporate re-structuring valuations, due-diligence and transaction advisory services and other related financial management services, CA. Dayaniwas Sharma has overseen and managed audit engagements of large corporate entities from international, private and public sector undertakings.

After discharging his duties on multiple committees as Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Member, during his first term, he has been re-elected for the second term to the Central Council of ICAI for the period 2022-25. He has served as Chairman of some of the committees of ICAI namely Board of Studies (Academics), Digital Re-engineering and Transformation Committee, Peer review Board, Center of Excellence-Hyderabad.

Prof Dr. Hooy Chee Wooi

Vice President, Malaysian Economic Association

Dr. Hooy Chee Wooi is a Professor of Finance at School of Management, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He is currently a senate member of the university. His main research interests are corporate governance and international finance, and his research works have appeared in many top academic journals, including Journal of Business Research, British Accounting Review, and Pacific Basin Finance. He is currently the chief editors of 2 indexed referred journals Asian Academy of Management Journal of Accounting and Finance (Scopus), and Capital Market Review, and he sit in editorial and advisory board of several other indexed referred journals. Dr. Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid

Chief Economist & Social Finance, Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad

Dr Afzanizam has more than 20 years of experience in investment research especially in the field of economics and capital market. Previously, he had served in a few institutions such as Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) and Malaysian Rating Corporations Berhad (MARC) among others as an economist. His role in BMMB is to advise the bank on macroeconomic related issues such as fiscal and monetary policies. He is also a regular commentator in the media as well as academic adviser in several local universities.

Dr. Mohammed Obaidullah

Chairman, IBF Net Group

Dr Mohammed Obaidullah is the Founder Chairman of IBF Net: the Islamic Business and Finance Network. He created this maiden online IBF community in the year 1999, coinciding with the internet boom, while he was serving the India-based Xavier Institute of Management as an Associate Professor of Finance. Since then, he has served several international and national institutions of repute, including the supranational development finance institution, the Islamic Development Bank Group as a Lead Economist, the Islamic Economics Institute of the King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia and the International Islamic University Malaysia, creating and sharing knowledge in the field of Islamic economics and finance with a focus on the application of blockchain, AI and other technologies in addressing key development challenges. He held the 2nd Yayasan Tun Ismail Mohamed Berdafter (YTI) Chair Professorship in Islamic Finance with the Islamic Sciences University of Malaysia. 

 

Dr. Obaidullah continued to coordinate the programs and activities at IBF Net as an “online community” with passion for over two decades. In 2020, he facilitated the corporatization of IBF Net with entities in Singapore and Indonesia and continues to lead the Group as its Founder Chairman. He has widely published in the field of Islamic business and finance and has over 2400 citations till date with an h-index of 21 and i10-index of 30. He is the author of the popular book “Islamic Financial Services” that has over 550 citations till date.

Prof Dato’ Dr Mohd Azmi Omar

He is a member of Shariah Committee at Securities Commission Malaysia, Bank Rakyat Malaysia, Etiqa Takaful Malaysia and MUFG Bank Malaysia and was formerly an Islamic Finance Expert Advisor to the Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (Brunei Monetary Authority). Prior to his current position, he held the post of Director-General, Islamic Research and Training Institute, Islamic Development Bank Group, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He also has previously worked at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), as Deputy Rector (Academic & Research), Dean of Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF) and Dean of Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences. 

Dr. Azmi was awarded “The Most Outstanding Individual Contribution to Islamic Finance” in the KLIFF Islamic Finance Awards 2015 and “Lifetime Achievement Award in Islamic Economics and Finance” at the 3rd World Islamic Economics and Finance Conference Pakistan in 2020. Recent consulting projects led by Dr. Azmi include the development of the Indonesia Shari’ah (Islamic) Economy Masterplan 2019-2024 for the government of Indonesia and the Kazakhstan Islamic Finance Masterplan 2020-2025 for the Astana International Financial Center (AIFC) and Republic of Kazakhstan.

Rasidah Abdul Karim graduated from Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyah of Law (AIKOL), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 2003 and pursued her postgraduate study in Master of Comparative Laws in the same university. She was admitted and enrolled as advocate and solicitor of High Court of Malaya and had ceased practice after she joined Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) in 2005, now known as Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). 

 

She started her journey as an Investigation Officer in ACA Negeri Kelantan and moved to Malaysia Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) in 2009 till October 2016. In November 2016, she was appointed as the Deputy Director of Agency Integrity Management Division (AIMD), MACC based in Putrajaya. She then served as the Director of Anti-Corruption Research Division, National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption (GIACC), Prime Minister’s Department from June 2018 till April 2023. Liza Mustapha was appointed Executive Vice President & Group Chief Financial Officer of PETRONAS on 1st June 2021. She began her career as a junior executive 27 years ago in the finance department of PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, the exploration and production subsidiary of PETRONAS. In the ensuing years, she held various positions within the PETRONAS Group which includes Chief Financial Officer of PETRONAS Gas Berhad, a gas infrastructure and utilities company and Senior General Manager of PETRONAS Group Treasury where she led the implementation of centralised treasury management for PETRONAS Group.

Thereafter she took on the role of Chief Financial Officer for the Upstream Business, which encompassed Exploration and Production, LNG Liquefaction and LNG Marketing & Trading. Ms. Asmaa Resmouki has more than thirty years of experience in the profession, including serving as audit partner in the large auditing firms (Deloitte and EY) in Morocco. In 2020, she started her consultancy practice firm where she has been assisting different organizations in projects relating to the profession and to advisory services.

Ms. Asmaa Resmouki became IFAC President in November 2022. Prior to becoming President, Ms. Resmouki was appointed Deputy President in November 2020 after serving on the IFAC board since November 2017, originally nominated to the board by the Ordre Des Experts Comptables—Morocco. As Deputy President, Ms. Resmouki chaired the IFAC Planning and Finance Committee, having previously chaired the board’s Governance Subcommittee prior to her election as Deputy President.

As Director, Policy & Global Engagement, Scott Hanson is responsible for coordinating IFAC’s engagement strategy with global organizations and non-accountancy stakeholders.  Mr. Hanson also leads IFAC’s policy and advocacy related to anti-corruption, anti-money laundering and economic crime, and oversees IFAC’s engagement in donor-funded capacity building initiatives.

Backed by nearly four decades of experience in criminal justice and prosecution work, he leads MIA’s Surveillance & Enforcement (S&E) Division, which encompasses Practice Review, Financial Statements Review, Proactive Enforcement, Investigation of Complaints, Disciplinary Proceedings and Appeals, and the Legal Unit.

 

Dato’ Redzuan’s approach to regulation combines education, engagement and enforcement. First and foremost, MIA educates members and engages them to encourage compliance. At the same time, his team works vigilantly to detect and prevent serious violations and abuses in the market. Post-investigation, offenders will be served with the appropriate sanctions, especially those members and accountants contracting with unqualified and/or bogus accountants who offer public practice services and erode the public’s trust in the profession.

 

Under his leadership, the S&E division actively collaborates and engages with co-regulators to share information and initiate punitive and penal action where necessary under their respective jurisdictions. Dato’ Redzuan advocates impartial justice without fear and favour, where MIA proactively initiates investigation and disciplinary proceedings against its members and accountants in the ecosystem to ensure that no guilty party escapes penal consequences, and to protect the public interest.

 

Prior to joining MIA, Dato’ Redzuan clocked 39 years of service as a police officer involved in technical operations and prosecution, as a Senior Magistrate handling criminal and drug-related cases, and as the Senior Director of Enforcement-cum-Senior Federal Counsel in Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia handling corporate matters.

Henning Diederichs

Technical Manager, Public Sector Financial Reporting, ICAEW

Mr. Diederichs is a technical manager, specialising in public sector financial and non-financial reporting in the Public Sector team at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Mr. Diederichs has over ten years of technical accounting experience in both the public and private sectors having worked for Barclays Bank PLC and the Ministry of Finance prior to joining ICAEW in 2015. 

Henning trained with a small accountancy firm in London prior to joining the group finance team at Barclays. After three turbulent years following the financial crisis Henning joined the Ministry of Finance where he helped construct and implement the Whole of Government Accounts (WGA) consolidation process. 

Henning became the Technical Advisor to the UK member of IPSASB in January 2019 and enjoys the technical aspects of financial reporting standards but is also passionate about sustainability reporting. 

Henning’s experience in public and private sector accounts production together with his involvement with IPSASB provide him with unique insights, both from a practical as well as from a conceptual perspective.

Nor Rosita Idris

Deputy Director, Accrual Accounting Implementation Team, Accountant General's Department of Malaysia

Nor Rosita Idris is the Deputy Director of the Accountant General’s Department of Malaysia’s (AGD) Accrual Accounting Implementation Team and the head of the Accounting Advisory Services and Change Management Unit. Since the beginning of the Federal Government of Malaysia’s accrual implementation journey in 2012, she has been actively involved in developing the accrual accounting standards, which are called Malaysian Public Sector Accounting Standards (MPSAS) and related accrual accounting policies.

She joined the public sector in 2001 and was assigned to the Internal Audit Management Division (BPAD), AGD before working as an accountant for the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs and the Ministry of Health. In 2008, she was assigned to the Accounting Development and Management Division (BPPP), AGD as the Secretariat of the Public Sector Accounting Standards Committee, and the Central Operation and Agency Services Division (BPOPA), AGD where she was in charge of managing and accounting for Federal Government Loans.

She is an MIA Chartered Accountant, a CPA Australia member, and an AGD Certified MPSAS Practitioner. As an accredited Management Consultant (Analyst) with the Management Consulting Institute (MCI), she also conducts regular in-house training which includes MPSAS courses.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy with Honours from Universiti Utara Malaysia, Sintok and a Diploma in International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).

Datuk Dr. Mohd Nizom Sairi has a wealth of knowledge on the operations and administration of direct taxes in Malaysia. He started his career with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia more than 35 years ago serving in various senior capacities including Director of Compliance Department, Director of Investigation Department, State Director of Perak, Director of Malaysian Tax Academy, Deputy CEO (Management) and Deputy CEO (Tax Operations) before his appointment as Chief Executive Officer.

 

Being a prominent speaker, Datuk Dr. Mohd Nizom Sairi frequently represents Malaysia and the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia at conferences, seminars and workshops. YBhg Dato’ Sr Haji Azmar Bin Talib serves as the Chief Executive Officer for TRX City Sdn Bhd since 2011. He has over 40-years of experience in real estate, construction as well as banking and project turnaround.

A valuer by training, was involved in the valuation profession for another 7 years before joining the banking industry for 7 years undertaking projects and corporate turnaround as well as project financing.

He then joined PNB Group and in the 18 years with the Group, he helmed 7 companies as their Group CEO. Amongst major tasks are acquiring few public listed companies, turnaround and then restructuring. He also set-up new companies and started 9 major townships, most of those are in Klang Valley.

Datuk Bazlan Osman

President, Malaysian Institute of Accountants

Datuk Bazlan Osman was elected by the Council as MIA President on 17 June 2022.

Previously, he was elected by the Council as the Vice President on 30 July 2021 and commenced his term as MIA Council member on 1 December 2019.

He is also currently the Chair of the ACCA Malaysia Advisory Committee.

Datuk Bazlan brings extensive corporate and business experience to the MIA leadership role. Currently, he sits on the board of several public listed companies, namely as Chairman of FIMA Corporation Berhad, Senior Independent Non-Executive Director of Bursa Malaysia Berhad, Independent Non-Executive Director (INED) of Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Keluarga Berhad and INED of Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad. Rihanna Haryanti Mohd Ramli

Rihanna has been the Senior General Manager of Group Tax for PETRONAS since April 2020 and a member of PETRONAS Finance Leadership Team. Her role involves championing the tax strategy formulation and implementation, lead the provision of commercially focused tax advice effective tax strategy and structure for PETRONAS Group of Companies to ensure PETRONAS business operates in full compliance with tax laws and regulations. Under her leadership, she has championed the transformation of tax functions into a customer centric, focused execution and technology driven organisation. The establishment of PETRONAS Tax Policy was one of the key milestones that not only aim to demonstrate PETRONAS commitment as a responsible corporate citizen but demand an attitude of inculcating tax savviness amongst PETRONAS employees. Her priorities are to optimise the centralised tax services operation and tax intelligence, balancing various demand from internal and external stakeholders, which compliment PETRONAS interest to pursue its purpose as A Progressive Energy and Solutions Partner, Enriching Lives for A Sustainable Future.

Dr Jessica Meenachi

Senior Director of Industry Environmental, Social & Governance, MITI (i-ESG)

Dr Meenachi is the Senior Director at Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), overseeing ESG-related matters for the manufacturing sector. Prior to this, she was with the Ministry of Finance for 19 years, involved mostly in planning, analysing and writing various policy papers in the field of economics. Notably, she was involved in the writing of Economic Report / Economic Outlook as well as the budget speeches and fiscal stimulus packages. She was also involved in the macroeconomic forecasting and modelling. In 2020, she was seconded to the Faculty of Business and Economics, University Malaya as a Senior Lecturer for two years. 

She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics in 1996 from University Malaya and Post-graduate Diploma in Public Administration in 2001. Meanwhile, she obtained Masters in Public Policy (Economics) from Japan in 2007 and PhD (Economics) in the field of Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) Modelling from Monash University, Melbourne in 2015.

Dato’ Lock Peng Kuan, is the Managing Partner in Audit & Assurance at Baker Tilly Malaysia and a partner at Baker Tilly Cambodia. Dato’ Lock graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting and Finance from Middlesex University, London. He is a Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, a Chartered Accountant of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, a member of the ASEAN Chartered Professional Accountants and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors Malaysia. He is an approved auditor in Malaysia, a registered auditor with Audit Oversight Board in Malaysia, a CPA with Kampuchea Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Auditors as well as an approved Foreign Auditor with the Securities Commission and Exchange of Thailand.

Dato’ Lock is currently a Global Council Member of ACCA and the Vice Chair of its Audit Committee. He is a Member of the Capital Market Advisory Committee of Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), a member of the Professional Standards Committee of Baker Tilly International. Dato’ Lock is the Past Chair of the ACCA Global Forum for Audit and Assurance, the Past Vice Chair of ACCA Malaysia Advisory Committee, the former Board Member of the Audit & Assurance Standards Board and he was a member of the Industry Advisory Board at HELP College of Arts and Technology and formerly an interviewer for approval of Audit License in Malaysia.

Dato’ Lock has more than 20 years of professional working experience and was with PricewaterhouseCoopers and subsequently worked with Hong Leong Management Company, prior to joining Baker Tilly Malaysia.

Alex Ng

Mr. Alex Ng is currently the Sales and Marketing Director of Auto Count Sdn Bhd. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Portsmouth, UK (2000).

 

Alex began his career as a software developer in 2000. He left the company in 2002 and started his entrepreneurial journey. Alex co-founded TM Century Solutions (TMCS) in 2002, a company specializing in providing business application solutions in accounting systems, payroll and point-of-sale (POS) for the SME market. He joined AutoCount in 2016 to lead the sales and marketing function.

 

To date, Alex has acquired more than 20 years of experience in the software development industry. He has deep expertise in helping SME customers make strategic decisions in software investments that directly impact their business operations, encompassing areas in accounting, point of sales and payroll processes.

Zowie Pateman

Deputy Leader – Reporting and Assurance, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand

Zowie Pateman is the Reporting and Assurance Deputy Leader in the Advocacy and Professional Standing team at Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. She is responsible for shaping and influencing policy development of relevance to Chartered Accountants in the areas of auditing and assurance, and financial and sustainability reporting.

With over 10 years’ experience in policy, she started her career in the specialist field of audit and has held positions with PwC in Southampton UK, and Moore Markhams in Christchurch, New Zealand. 

Zowie is a Fellow Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics from the University of Warwick.

Alex Hindson

Partner, Head of Sustainability, Crowe U.K. LLP

Amassing more than 30 years of experience, Alex specialises in sustainability, risk governance and climate risk, helping to build purpose led, long term sustainable businesses that are able to secure ESG related opportunities as well as managing reputational and regulatory threats. He also drives Crowe UK’s sustainability programme.

 

Prior to joining Crowe, Alex previously worked with the Argo Group, where he was Chief Risk and Sustainability Officer, a role in which Alex pioneered industry leading approaches to create sustainability strategies.

 

Alex has also previously worked at AstraZeneca, Aon and Amlin, in a variety of risk management, consulting and governance roles. He has also acted as a non-executive director for non-profit organisations, including as board chairman.

 

Alex has been recognised by The Insurer magazine for his work in strategy building, and integrating sustainability thinking into organisation wide governance and core management processes, receiving the publication’s inaugural ‘Outstanding Achievement in ESG’ award in 2022.
